Commodity Buyer – Norcross, Georgia

Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000
Job Summary:
The Commodity Buyer is responsible for developing, executing, planning and managing continuous supply of production and prototype materials to guarantee accurate and timely availability based on production and lead time parameters. The role will perform new sourcing/pricing management, supplier management, and other purchasing directives to support internal and external customers. Requires a clear understanding of the commercial “environment” of a major International OEM and the ability to work under broad strategic guidelines / parameters governing the selected commodities and financial obligations of the Company.
Essential Functions:
∙Responsible for Sourcing – RFQ preparation, execution and analysis
∙For select commodities, develop and execute long-term strategy deployment, supplier cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations, long-term contract establishment, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship development.
∙Assist Purchasing Manager in the development and execution of long-term supply strategy, cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, make/buy analyses, negotiations and long-term contract establishment including LTA (Long-term Agreement).
∙Prepares production and engineering purchase orders for the purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements.
∙Identifies materials and component requirements for production from engineering and production specifications and schedules and ensures suppliers meet requirements.
∙Investigate and inform Purchasing Manager of new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary to support new product development, cost reduction requirements, and/or supplier performance issues within agreed strategic parameters
∙Work with Supplier Quality to support the Supplier Development processes including the coordination and support supplier assessment / performance audits and continuous improvement activities.
∙Supports in daily production meeting and providing status of component shortages
∙The ability to identify Cost Improvement opportunities within nominated commodity groups, and to implement such actions as necessary to implement identified opportunities
∙Initial point of escalation from the Material Planning Team for late deliveries
∙Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience/Training/Education:
∙3-5 years as a Buyer, Supply Chain Analyst, or other purchasing related experience required, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
∙BA or BS Degree in a Business or Manufacturing/Engineering related field preferred.
∙Demonstrated proficiency in working with MRP and production planning systems (i.e. SAP MM, PP).
∙Certification (s) in Purchasing a Plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
∙Ability to learn new systems and purchasing knowledge base.
∙Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
∙A high energy, results driven, individual that is process oriented with the ability to implement continuous
improvement initiatives.
∙Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing processes and National / Global market of the areas of commodity expertise
∙Willing to “go the extra mile” to support production and launch activities.
∙Tolerance for ambiguity and paradox in a fast-paced environment of change.
∙Excellent priority management, time management and organizational skills.
∙Ability to self-start and work without close supervision, understanding what needs to be done and taking the required actions to maintain production.
∙Good communication skills both verbal and written.
∙Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
∙Multitasking skills a must.
∙The ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Physical and Environmental Elements:
∙Frequent exposure to manufacturing production and formal office environments.
∙Travel up to 20%.
